A feature on Peindre la lumière at Le Carrelot in La Romieu, exploring Antoine Poupel’s Japanese landscapes and his longstanding collaboration with Zingaro.
On 29 June 2026, La Dépêche du Midi featured Antoine Poupel’s exhibition Peindre la lumière at Le Carrelot in La Romieu. The article explores two distinct bodies of work: Saison 5, inspired by his travels in Japan, and his photographs of the equestrian theatre Zingaro.
The exhibition’s opening rooms presented large-format Japanese landscapes in an immersive arrangement. The route then led visitors into the world of Zingaro, where the installation evoked the theatre’s performance space.
Speaking to the newspaper, Poupel praised the presentation and reflected on the different experiences behind the series: a personal exploration of Japan and an artistic relationship with Zingaro spanning more than twenty-five years.
Light connects these two worlds. For Poupel, photography is an act of creation, a way of shaping an image through an individual vision. Peindre la lumière brought these approaches together within a single exhibition.
