During summer 2026, Antoine Poupel joined Jocelyn Le Creurer for Les Métamorphoses d’Ovide, an exhibition presented at Studio Jocelyn Le Creurer in Eu, Normandy. Bringing together two artistic practices, the exhibition took its title from Ovid’s celebrated narratives of transformation.

In Ovid’s Metamorphoses, bodies change, identities shift, and the boundaries between human beings and the natural world become fluid. As an exhibition title, Les Métamorphoses d’Ovide offers a starting point for considering how artists reshape what they see—and how an image can lead the viewer from a familiar subject toward something unexpected.

Photography as Transformation

This idea finds a particular resonance in Antoine Poupel’s approach to photography. His work questions the photograph’s relationship with reality, treating the image as material to be explored and transformed.

Through layering, experimentation, and interventions on the photographic surface, Poupel creates works in which observation and imagination meet. Light becomes more than a means of recording a subject: it becomes a material through which he builds an image. Forms may overlap, details emerge or recede, and the original scene takes on another presence.

Seen through the lens of metamorphosis, this practice invites viewers to consider photography as an ongoing process of change. The image begins with an encounter with the visible world, then develops through the artist’s decisions, gestures, and experiments.

An Encounter in the Studio

Presented at Studio Jocelyn Le Creurer, the exhibition brought Poupel’s photographic practice into a shared setting with Le Creurer’s work. The title provided a common point of departure while leaving room for visitors to discover connections between the two artists.

The studio setting offered an opportunity to encounter the works in a place associated with artistic production. Here, the theme of transformation could be considered through both the finished images and the broader act of making: the passage from an initial idea or observation to a work with a life of its own.

Les Métamorphoses d’Ovide opened with an evening reception on Saturday, 13 June 2026, from 6 to 9 p.m. The exhibition remained accessible by appointment throughout the summer.
